Brix is digital signage software based in Los Angeles. You control every screen from one web dashboard, and each screen runs on a TV you already have plus a small player such as the Amazon Signage Stick. It costs $6 per screen per month billed annually, or $8 billed monthly. Because we are based here, we can help Los Angeles businesses in person, for example by setting up your first screens with you.
This page is for Los Angeles businesses, including Santa Monica and the Westside, that want menu boards, lobby screens or promotions on TVs. If you need a large LED wall or an outdoor sign, you need a sign company or an AV installer, and the last section explains the difference.
What does digital signage cost in Los Angeles?
Software is a monthly fee per screen:
| Screens | Billed annually | Billed monthly |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $6 a month | $8 a month |
| 5 | $30 a month | $40 a month |
| 10 | $60 a month | $80 a month |
Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and you do not need a card to start it. The full table is on the pricing page.
Hardware is a one-off cost: a TV plus a player in its HDMI port, such as the Amazon Signage Stick. The Signage Stick price guide covers what it costs.
A rollout of 30 or more screens can qualify for free Signage Sticks from Amazon. Talk to us and we arrange it with Amazon.
Can Brix help in person in Los Angeles?
Yes. Brix is based in Los Angeles and our support team is here. For a Los Angeles business we can help in person: set up the first screens with you, pair them to your account, and show your team how to change content from a laptop or phone.
What we do not do is mount TVs, run cables or build signs. If your screens are not on the wall yet, a TV mounting or AV company does that part. Once a TV has power and HDMI, setup takes about 10 minutes per screen. Restaurants can start from digital signage for restaurants.
What California rules apply to restaurant menu boards?
Two rules come up most for restaurants in California:
- Calories. Restaurant chains with 20 or more locations under the same name must post calories on their menus and menu boards, including digital ones. This is the federal rule, 21 CFR 101.11. California's own calorie law was replaced by it, so there is no separate California format. The Brix Menu Board app has a Calorie labeling setting that formats calories the way that rule describes; see calorie labeling on digital menu boards.
- Drinks in children's meals. Under California Health and Safety Code sections 114379.10 to 114379.50 (SB 1192), the drink a menu or menu board lists with a children's meal must be water, unflavored milk, or a non-dairy milk of 130 calories or less. Customers can still ask for a different drink. The bill text has the full wording.
In California, the local environmental health department enforces both. Check with them if you are not sure whether a rule covers you.
Do screens in a sunny Los Angeles window need a special display?
Often, yes. A standard TV looks washed out behind a south- or west-facing window in the afternoon. For a screen that faces the street through glass, a high-brightness commercial display is easier to read. Indoor screens away from windows work fine on an ordinary TV.
Digital signage software or a sign company?
Searches for "digital signage Los Angeles" return two kinds of business: software companies and installers. Here is who does what:
| You need | Who does it |
|---|---|
| TVs showing menus, offers or announcements you change yourself | Signage software such as Brix, plus a player on each TV |
| Mounting TVs, running power and cables | A TV mounting or AV installer |
| LED walls, video walls, outdoor or illuminated signs | A sign company or AV integrator |
| Permits for outdoor or building signs | Usually the sign company, with your city |
Many businesses need the first row only. If you need an installer as well, the software choice still matters: pick software that runs on ordinary TVs and players, so you are not locked into one installer's hardware.
When you get an installer's quote, ask for:
- A price per screen that includes the mount, cable and any new power outlet.
- A power outlet and network cable, or strong Wi-Fi, behind each screen.
- Who handles a City of Los Angeles or building permit, if the work needs one.
- Which player and software they install, and whether you can change software later without new hardware.
For what each part usually costs, see how much digital signage costs.
