Amazon Signage Stick Remote Not Pairing: Fix It

The Stick's pairing shortcut turns off after setup. Amazon's own fix: a triple power cycle reopens the pairing window.

Holding Home on the physical remote does nothing once an Amazon Signage Stick (buyers often call it "the Fire Stick") has finished setup and is running a CMS app. The fix is a triple power cycle that forces the Stick to reopen its pairing window, confirmed directly by Amazon's own Signage Stick support team.

Why the remote stops pairing

The Stick only opens its Bluetooth pairing window automatically during first-time setup. Once setup finishes and a CMS app takes over playback, that shortcut turns off. Holding Home for 10 seconds on an already-set-up Stick looks ready to pair, but no pairing screen appears, because nothing is listening for it anymore.

This happens most often when a Signage Stick:

  • Moved to a new Wi-Fi network and cannot be reached over Bluetooth from the companion app.
  • Lost its remote, or got a replacement remote, after setup was already done.
  • Arrived already paired to someone else's account or phone.

How to reconnect the remote

Amazon's own support documentation confirms this same fix, under "How do I pair a remote to a configured Stick without using the mobile app?"

  1. Unplug the Stick's power, plug it back in, and let it boot fully. Repeat three times within five minutes. Each cycle must be a complete power-off and reboot.
  2. Wait about 10 seconds after the third boot. The Stick opens a three-minute pairing window.
  3. Hold Home on the remote until its light starts flashing, then release it.
  4. Press the gear icon, open Settings, then go to Network and Internet > Wi-Fi to join the new network.

Let each reboot finish fully before you unplug again, or the power cycle does not count toward the three.

No remote on hand? Use Ethernet instead

A USB Ethernet adapter on the Stick brings it back online without any remote or Bluetooth pairing. Amazon's micro-USB Ethernet Adapter costs $14.99 and needs its own power; do not power it from the TV's USB port. Once the Stick is online over Ethernet, change its Wi-Fi remotely from the CMS, or restart or factory reset it from Signage Manager, without ever touching the remote.

FAQ

What if the pairing window closes before I am ready?

Start the three power cycles again. The window opens about 10 seconds after the third reboot and stays open for three minutes.

Does this reset my content or settings?

No. Re-pairing the remote does not factory reset the Stick. Your content, schedules, and app stay as they were. A factory reset is a separate, deliberate action from the Stick's own menu.

Why can I not just use the mobile app?

The app pairs over Bluetooth. A Stick on a new network, or one that already lost its Bluetooth connection, often will not show up in the app at all. The power-cycle method does not depend on the phone finding it first.

Once the Stick is back online

Check your CMS to confirm the screen reports online under its new network name. If it keeps disconnecting after reconnecting, the cause is usually the network, not the remote. A CMS built on Amazon's Remote Management API can reboot the Stick and change its Wi-Fi from the dashboard, so a lost remote does not strand a screen next time.
