You cannot switch an Amazon Signage Stick to a different CMS from its menus. Amazon's answer is to start again: remove the stick from your Amazon Signage account, factory reset it, then run setup and pick the new CMS when it asks. Allow about 10 minutes per stick, more if it installs an update.
Steps
- Write down what the screen shows. Its name, location, playlists and schedule stay in the old CMS. Nothing moves across.
- Remove the stick from your Amazon Signage account. Sign in at console.signage.amazon.com, find the stick by name or serial number (DSN), select the trash icon and confirm. Skip this and setup can refuse the stick later with "belongs to another organization".
- Factory reset the stick. On the remote, hold Back and the right side of the navigation circle for 10 seconds. Or use Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). See factory reset for the app and portal methods.
- Run setup. Pair the remote, join Wi-Fi, and select the new CMS from the list on screen.
- Wait for the install. The stick downloads the new CMS app and any update. This can take 10 minutes or more.
- Pair it in the new CMS with the code the stick shows, then assign content.
Before you switch
- Check the old contract. Removing the stick from a CMS does not cancel that subscription. Cancel or reduce the license count with the old vendor.
- Build content in the new CMS first. Upload files and build playlists while the stick still runs the old CMS. The screen is then dark only during the reset and setup.
- Check the Wi-Fi at the screen. The reset clears the saved network. Someone at the screen needs the Wi-Fi password, or a remote, or the Amazon Signage mobile app nearby.
- Is the new CMS on the list? Only CMSs built for the stick appear in its setup. Amazon lists them on its CMS partners page.
Switching many sticks
Setup with the Amazon Signage mobile app can set up several sticks at once, and without a display attached, as long as they share the same Wi-Fi and CMS. The remote sets up one stick at a time. Label each stick with its screen name before you start, so pairing codes do not get mixed up.
For a store rollout, reset and set up the sticks at one desk, then ship them. Each stick joins its store's Wi-Fi only if that network was entered during setup, or sent later by a CMS that can change Wi-Fi remotely.
Where Brix fits
Brix is one of the CMS partners in the stick's setup list, as Brix Signage. To move a stick to Brix:
- Sign up for the 7-day free trial. No card is needed.
- Build a playlist and schedule. They exist on their own, before any screen pairs.
- Remove, reset and set up the stick as above, choosing Brix Signage.
- In Brix, go to Screens > Add screen > Pair a hardware device and type the code on the TV. See connect a screen.
- Assign the playlist.
Brix cannot import playlists or schedules from another CMS automatically. Brix rebuilds them for you, free, as part of moving to Brix.
For a rollout of 30 screens or more, Amazon can provide the Signage Sticks free of charge. Talk to us and we arrange it with Amazon.
FAQ
Can I move a stick back to the old CMS later?
Yes. Delete the screen in the CMS you are leaving, remove the stick from your Amazon Signage account, reset it and choose the other CMS during setup.
Does changing the CMS affect my Amazon account?
No. Your Amazon Signage account stays. The stick leaves it in step 2 and returns when you set it up again.
