To factory reset an Amazon Signage Stick, hold Back and the right side of the navigation circle on its remote together for 10 seconds. The reset starts a few seconds later. No remote? Reset it from the Amazon Signage mobile app or the Signage Manager portal instead. Amazon documents no pinhole button on the stick (the "Fire Stick" behind the TV).

Four ways to reset it

Remote buttons

  1. Press and hold Back and the right side of the navigation circle together for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go. The stick starts the reset on its own after several more seconds.

Remote menu

  1. Press Settings on the remote and open System.
  2. Select Reset options.
  3. Select Erase all data (factory reset) and confirm.

Use this when the button combination does nothing. A CMS app that locks the stick in signage mode can hide the Settings menu. If it does, use the app or the portal.

Amazon Signage mobile app

  1. Select the stick's location in the list.
  2. Tap the stick, then the round remote-control icon (bottom right).
  3. Tap the reset icon (bottom left) and confirm.

The app shows the stick as Offline until you set it up again.

Signage Manager portal

  1. Sign in at signage.amazon.com and open Signage Manager.
  2. Find the stick by its DSN (serial number) or its name.
  3. Open the three-dot menu on its row, select Factory reset and confirm.

The portal and the app work from anywhere, but only while the stick is online.

What a reset clears, and what it keeps

ItemAfter a reset
Wi-Fi network and passwordCleared. You enter them again during setup.
The CMS the stick runsCleared. You choose a CMS again during setup.
Paired remotes and the mobile app linkCleared. Pair the remote again.
Content cached on the stickCleared. The CMS downloads it again after setup.
The stick's entry in your Amazon Signage accountKept. Remove it in the portal if you are giving the stick away.
Screens, playlists and schedules in your CMSKept in the CMS account. The reset only touches the stick.

After the reset

  1. Plug the stick into the TV with the adapter from the box, in a wall outlet.
  2. Pair the remote. Hold Home for about 10 seconds until the stick shows "Press button to start".
  3. Join Wi-Fi and pick your CMS on the setup screens.
  4. Leave it powered on. The first start can install an update and the CMS app, which takes 10 minutes or more on a slow network.
  5. Pair the stick in your CMS with the code it shows.

If setup says the stick belongs to another organization, the old owner never removed it. Sign in to that Amazon Signage account, find the stick and delete it (the trash icon), then run setup again.

When to reset, and when not to

  • Reset before you give a stick away, move it to another company's account, change the CMS it runs, or as the last step when a fault survives every other fix.
  • Do not reset a stick that is frozen or offline for a short time. Restart it first: unplug the power for one minute, or reboot it remotely. A reset clears the Wi-Fi, so a stick you cannot reach in person stays offline until someone sets it up at the screen.
  • Do not reset for a picture fault. A stick stuck on the Amazon logo or a black screen usually has a power, HDMI or HDCP problem that a reset does not fix.

Where Brix fits

A reset does not delete the screen in Brix. The screen keeps its name, content, schedule and history. After the reset, open the screen, expand Replace or remove, select Replace device and type the new pairing code. The same flow swaps a spare stick into a screen whose stick failed. See connect a screen for pairing.

Brix can also send a reboot to an online stick, so most frozen screens need no reset and no visit.

Brix is not the right tool for a stick you only want to wipe and sell. Use the Amazon Signage portal for that, and delete the stick from your account there.

FAQ

How long does a reset take?

The reset itself takes a few minutes. Setup afterwards takes about 10 minutes, longer when the stick installs an update.

Does resetting one stick affect my other screens?

No. Only the stick you reset changes.

The stick ignores the button combination. What next?

Use the Settings menu path, or reset it from the mobile app or the portal. If the remote does not respond at all, replace its batteries, then reset the remote: hold Left, Menu and Back together for 12 seconds.
