Samsung is retiring MagicInfo for VXT, its cloud platform. MagicInfo On-Premise licences stop being sold on 31 December 2026, MagicInfo Cloud ends on 28 February 2027, and all MagicInfo support ends on 31 December 2029. MagicInfo 8 is already unsupported. So you have until the end of 2029 at the latest, and less if you use MagicInfo Cloud, run MagicInfo 8, or need to add screens.
What is ending, and when
| Date | What happens | Source |
|---|---|---|
| October 2023 | Last security patch for MagicInfo 8. Samsung no longer maintains it. | Samsung |
| 31 December 2026 | End of sale for MagicInfo On-Premise, for existing and new customers | Samsung VX docs |
| 28 February 2027 | End of service for MagicInfo Cloud | Samsung VX docs |
| 2027 onward | Samsung sells VXT only | Samsung VX docs |
| 31 December 2029 | End of support for MagicInfo: no more fixes or security updates | Samsung VX docs |
Samsung says security holes in MagicInfo 8 are now the customer's responsibility, and that it has seen security incidents at customers still on version 8. Its two ways out: a paid upgrade to MagicInfo 9, or a move to VXT.
Samsung does not say what a display shows once its server is gone. Plan as if you can no longer change content or schedules from that date.
Who is affected
- MagicInfo 8 server (on-premise). Already unsupported. Samsung's page gives no end date for the server running, but nothing gets fixed. Treat it as the most urgent case.
- MagicInfo 9 server (on-premise). Supported until 31 December 2029. After 31 December 2026 you cannot buy more licences, so a fleet that grows needs another plan before then.
- MagicInfo Cloud (hosted by Samsung). End of service on 28 February 2027, the earliest hard stop. Some Samsung partners host MagicInfo servers for customers and say their service runs to the end of 2029 (for example MagicInfo Services, April 2026). If a partner hosts yours, ask them in writing what date applies to you.
- Screens. The displays do not stop working. What ends is the MagicInfo server that tells them what to play. The same displays can run VXT, another CMS with a Tizen app, or show a player plugged into HDMI.
MagicInfo 9 servers also need patching while they run. CVE-2024-7399, a flaw in MagicInfo 9 Server before version 21.1050, lets an attacker write files with system rights, and the US CISA lists it as exploited in real attacks (NVD). If you stay on-premise, keep the server on the latest MagicInfo 9 build and off the open internet.
Your options
1. Move to Samsung VXT
VXT is Samsung's cloud platform and its named replacement. Samsung offers the VXT CMS Transformer, a tool that copies content, schedules and device settings from MagicInfo into VXT (Samsung). VXT also manages Android 10 and later, Windows 11 and BrightSign 9 players, so a mixed fleet can sit in one system.
Check your display model first. Samsung's VXT plans page lists the compatible Samsung models (QxR, QxB and QxC standalone displays, outdoor, LED, Flip and e-paper series, and others) and notes that features vary by model. Older displays that are not on the list may need a new player.
Fits if: your screens are Samsung displays on VXT's list and you want to stay with Samsung.
2. Another CMS with a native Samsung Tizen app
Samsung commercial displays run Tizen. Several other signage platforms install an app directly on them, so you keep the screens and add no hardware:
- Yodeck: its Tizen app supports Tizen 2.4 to 7 (SSSP 4 to 11) on Samsung commercial displays, not consumer Samsung TVs (Yodeck docs, read September 2026).
- Xibo: hosted plans include its Tizen player. If you want to keep running your own server, Xibo's CMS is open source and self-hostable, with a paid Tizen player licence.
- Appspace: runs on Samsung displays, aimed at large corporate communications.
Fits if: you want to keep your Samsung displays and add no hardware, and your display's Tizen version is on the vendor's list. Test one screen first.
3. Stay on MagicInfo 9 on-premise until 2029
A MagicInfo 9 server with enough licences keeps running, with support, until 31 December 2029. It buys time, not a destination: you still move before 2030, and you cannot add licences after 2026. If you run MagicInfo 8, this path starts with Samsung's paid upgrade to MagicInfo 9.
Fits if: your fleet will not grow before the end of 2026, your IT team can keep the server patched, and a move now is not possible.
4. Plug a player into the HDMI port
Any signage platform can drive a Samsung display through a small player plugged into HDMI: an Amazon Signage Stick, an Android box or a Windows PC. The display becomes a screen and the player does the work. This path does not depend on the display's model or Tizen version, which makes it the way out for older Samsung displays that VXT and Tizen apps do not support. The cost is a player per screen.
Fits if: your displays are older, you run a mix of brands, or the platform you want has no Tizen app.
Step by step: moving off MagicInfo
- Find your version and dates. In the MagicInfo server, check whether it is version 8 or 9 and the build number. Cloud or partner-hosted: ask for the service end date in writing.
- List your screens. For each: display model and year, location, what it shows, and whether it is in a video wall. The model decides whether VXT or a Tizen app can run on it.
- Export your content. Download images, videos and templates while the server still runs. Note each playlist and schedule: most moves rebuild these by hand, except VXT's Transformer.
- Pick the platform from the options above, by your screen models and what the screens do.
- Test one screen on the new platform next to the old one for a week.
- Move site by site. Pair each screen, check it plays, then remove it from MagicInfo.
- Retire the server. Once the last screen has moved, take the MagicInfo server off the network.

What it costs
- MagicInfo 9 upgrade (from 8): Samsung calls it a paid service and publishes no price.
- Samsung VXT: the plans page lists S, P and X Series CMS plans and two remote-management plans, each with "Contact us" and no public price (read September 2026). Samsung ran a migration offer of up to 65% off VXT P Series for MagicInfo On-Premise customers who used the Transformer, valid until 30 June 2026. Ask your Samsung reseller what applies.
- Yodeck: $8, $12 or $16 per screen per month (Basic, Premium, Enterprise), monthly or annual.
- Xibo: hosted £3.50, £5.50 or £9.00 per display per month. Self-hosted: the CMS is free, a Tizen player licence is £60 per display, one time.
- An HDMI player: the Amazon Signage Stick costs $99.99, once per screen, plus the platform's own price.
Prices read from each vendor's own pricing page, September 2026. The biggest cost in most moves is not the licence: it is rebuilding playlists and schedules, and any visit to screens that need a new player.
Where Brix fits
Brix does not run on the Samsung display itself. It runs on a player plugged into the display's HDMI port: the Amazon Signage Stick ($99.99), Fire TV, an Android box, a TV with Google TV built in, or a Windows PC. For a MagicInfo fleet that means option 4: keep the Samsung displays, add a Stick to each, and manage every screen from one browser.
- Price: $6 per screen per month billed annually, or $8 billed monthly, every feature on one plan. For 20 screens: $1,899.80 once for Sticks (Amazon's 10-plus price of $94.99) and $1,440 a year for Brix. See pricing.
- Nothing to host: Brix is a cloud CMS, so there is no server to patch after 2029. Setup takes about 10 minutes per Stick.
- Larger fleets: Amazon provides Signage Sticks free for rollouts of 30 or more screens. Talk to us and we arrange it with Amazon.
- Support: US-based, in Los Angeles, 7 days a week, at no extra cost.
Brix is not the fit if you want no extra hardware behind each display: a CMS with a native Tizen app, such as VXT or Yodeck, runs on the display alone. It is also not the fit if you must host the CMS on your own servers (Xibo self-hosted), or if you need a synchronized video wall.
