A consumer Samsung smart TV can show signage, but it is a poor fit: most signage apps do not support it, the app does not reopen by itself after a power cut, and the TV switches itself off after 4 hours without a button press. Samsung Smart Signage displays (the QB, QM and QH series) are built for the job and run many signage apps with no extra hardware. The cheapest reliable setups are a Smart Signage display with a free one-screen plan, or any TV plus a small player on its HDMI port.
Can a consumer Samsung smart TV run digital signage?
Only with workarounds. Consumer TVs and Smart Signage both run Tizen, but a consumer TV is set up for someone holding a remote:
- Few apps. Play Digital Signage and NoviSign do not support home Samsung TVs. OptiSigns keeps a consumer app in the Samsung store but no longer recommends it. Fugo's app is in the store on some models only.
- No reliable auto-start. Samsung has an "Autorun Last App" setting (Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Start Screen Options; on 2025 and later models, Advanced Features > Start Screen Options), but Samsung says it may not work with every app. After a power cut, someone may have to reopen the app with the remote.
- Auto Power Off. On by default: the TV turns off with no signal or after 4 hours with no remote input. Turn it off under Settings > General > Eco Solution.
- Little storage. OptiSigns gives "a few hundred MB" as one reason it stopped recommending consumer Samsung TVs, so long videos may not fit.
- Warranty. Samsung's US TV warranty covers normal, non-commercial use and excludes problems caused by commercial use (Samsung warranty terms).
- No remote control. No signage app can reboot a consumer Samsung TV or switch it on and off on a schedule.
Fine for a staff-room TV that someone switches on each morning. Not for a menu board or a shop window.

Check your display's Tizen version before you choose. Yodeck and NoviSign do not support Tizen 8 (Samsung's 2024 displays). ScreenCloud needs Tizen 6.5 or later.
The free and cheap options
Free:
- Yodeck Free: one screen, no time limit, on a commercial display. Limits on Tizen: 1080p video at most, no YouTube live streams.
- Play Digital Signage: the first screen is free. Commercial displays only.
- Samsung VXT: Samsung's own cloud CMS. A free trial covers up to 3 displays for 6 months, then a paid licence with no public price (Samsung VXT).
- Samsung Business TV app: free phone app for Samsung Business TVs (BE series), with templates. Only for those models.
- Xibo self-hosted: the CMS is free and open source, but the Tizen player licence costs £60 per display, once, and you run the server.
Cheapest paid, per screen per month:
- Yodeck Basic: $8, billed annually or monthly.
- Play Digital Signage Essential: $7.20 billed annually (at 4 screens), $8 monthly.
- OptiSigns Standard: $9 billed annually, $10 monthly.
- Xibo hosted: £3.50 per display, Tizen player included.
MagicInfo, Samsung's older CMS, stops being sold at the end of 2026. See MagicInfo end of life before you buy licences for it.
Samsung Smart Signage or a smart TV?
Smart Signage displays cost more than a consumer TV of the same size. What the extra pays for:
- Hours. The QB series is rated for 16 hours a day. The QM and QH series are rated for 24/7, and QH is brighter for windows.
- Signage apps built in. URL Launcher and Custom App install a vendor's player by typing a web address. The display starts the app after a power cut.
- Business warranty. Commercial use is what it is sold for.
- Remote control. Signage apps such as Play can restart the display and switch it on and off. On a consumer TV they cannot.
The 65-inch models: the QB65C (16/7, Tizen 7, 8 GB storage) and the QM65C (24/7, 500 nits). Older stock is the QB65R and QM65R (Tizen 4). The last letter is the model year: B is 2022 (Tizen 6.5), C is 2023 (Tizen 7). Samsung's signage model list gives each model's Tizen version.
Buy a QM or QH for a screen that runs all day, every day. A QB suits a shop open 10 to 12 hours.
How to install a signage app on a Smart Signage display
- On the display's remote, press Home, then open Settings > System > Play via (the menu name varies by year).
- Choose Custom App or URL Launcher.
- Type the address from your signage vendor's Samsung page (for example, Yodeck's is
https://packages.yodeck.com/tizen). - Restart the display. The app opens and shows a pairing code.
- Enter the code in your signage account and assign content.
On a consumer TV there is no Play via menu. Install from the Samsung app store if your vendor has an app there, then turn on Autorun Last App and turn off Auto Power Off.
Where Brix fits
Brix has no app for Samsung TVs or displays. It runs on a player plugged into the HDMI port: the Amazon Signage Stick ($99.99), Fire TV, an Android box or a Windows PC. That works on any Samsung, consumer TV or Smart Signage, whatever its Tizen version.
- Price: $6 per screen per month billed annually, or $8 billed monthly, every feature on one plan. Plus $99.99 once per Stick.
- Remote control on the Stick: restart it, take a screenshot and turn the TV on and off over HDMI-CEC from the CMS. This also fixes a consumer TV's two weak points: the Stick reopens Brix after a power cut, and it switches the TV on each morning.
- Setup: about 10 minutes per Stick. Across the Signage Sticks running Brix, pairing takes a median of 2.6 minutes.
- Moving from MagicInfo or another CMS: we move your content, playlists and screens for you, free, usually in a day.
Brix is not the right choice if you want no box behind the screen. On Smart Signage displays, Yodeck, Play or Samsung VXT run on the display alone. Check the TV's HDMI-CEC setting (Samsung calls it Anynet+) is on, or the Stick cannot switch it on and off. More on reusing the screens you have in use existing TVs for digital signage.
