Screen settings, opening hours and display power
Rotate a screen, set its time zone and volume, decide when the display is on, and lock the player behind a PIN.
Each screen keeps its own settings for orientation, time zone, opening hours, display power, sound and the PIN lock. You set them in the screen panel on the Screens page. Use this guide when you install a screen, or when a venue changes the hours it opens.
What you can do
- Rotate a screen — Match the angle in Brix to the way the display hangs on the wall.
- Set the time zone and location — Give the screen the clock and the place its apps need.
- Set opening hours — Decide the hours when the display is on, for one screen or for many.
- Choose what happens out of hours — Turn the display off, blank the picture, or leave power to the device.
- Set the sound — Give one screen its own volume level.
- Lock the screen with a PIN — Stop anyone on site from opening the player settings.
Rotate a screen
- Open Screens in the sidebar.
- Select the screen you want.
- Find the Orientation block at the top of the panel.
- Select the tile for the angle the display hangs at.
- Wait about four seconds for a fresh picture.
The four tiles are Landscape, Portrait, and the same two flipped for a display mounted upside down. The flipped tiles read 180° and 270°.
️ The preview frame turns at once. The picture behind the frame stays at the old angle until the next capture lands.
️ When the content does not match the new angle, an amber note appears. Select Browse portrait templates in that note to find content that fits.
When one media file plays on the screen, a How the content fills the screen row appears under the tiles. Select Fit, Fill or Stretch.
Set the time zone and location
- Open the screen panel.
- Expand General.
- Pick a zone under Time zone, or leave Inherit from location.
- Select Set location.
- Type a city name in the box.
- Select the suggestion that matches.
- Select Save location.
- Type comma-separated words into Tags.
- Pick a place for the screen under Organization unit.
The tags save when the box loses focus. Weather and the other location-aware apps read the location you set here. The opening hours and the daily refresh run in the screen's own local time.

Set when the display is on
- Open the screen panel.
- Expand Hours.
- Under Schedule source choose Custom hours, or pick a power policy.
- Under On / off schedule choose Workspace hours, Always on or Custom per-day hours….
- For custom hours choose Every day, Weekday / weekend or Set each day.
- Give every open day an opening time and a closing time.
- Under Outside scheduled hours choose what the display does when the schedule closes.
The three off-hours choices are Turn the display off, Keep the display awake — ignore the schedule and Use the OS power plan (no override).
️ Without HDMI-CEC the schedule can only blank the picture. The panel stays powered, and Brix says so in a blue note.
️ With Always on hours there is no off-hours window to follow. The field becomes Display power and offers two choices.
️ A power policy changes nothing while Outside scheduled hours ignores the schedule. Set that field to turn the display off.
️ A power policy hides the per-screen hours editor. Exactly one of the two drives the schedule.
Turn the display on or off now
- Open the screen panel.
- Expand Hours.
- Select Display on or Display off under the schedule controls.
️ The two buttons appear only on a device that speaks HDMI-CEC. The CMS confirms that Brix sent the command, not that the display obeyed.
Set the volume for one screen
- Open the screen panel.
- Expand Playback.
- Drag the Volume slider.
- Release the slider to save the level.
- Read the line under the slider to see which level wins.
️ A workspace-wide mute beats this slider. Clear Mute everything in Settings > Workspace to get the sound back.
️ When the device's own output is low or muted, an amber note appears. Select Set to full in that note.
Tune playback and downloads
- Expand Playback.
- Pick Unsynced (default), Synced — frame-aligned across screens or Device time under Sync mode.
- Choose an hour under Daily refresh, or Off — never reload automatically.
- Turn on Download window for a venue with a slow connection.
- Set the Window hours, Simultaneous downloads and Bandwidth limit.
- Map a key under Keyboard shortcuts for an interactive screen.
️ The download window never delays emergency content. See alerts and emergency takeovers.
Set hours for many screens at once
- Open Screens and switch to list view.
- Tick the checkbox on every screen you want.
- Select Display hours in the black action bar.
- Choose an option under When on.
- Choose an option under Outside those hours.
- Select Apply to n screens.
️ The card grid has no checkboxes, so a bulk change needs list view. See manage your screens.
Create a power policy for many screens
A power policy is one set of opening hours you write once and apply to many screens.
- Open Settings > Organization.
- Select Power policies.
- Select New policy.
- Type a name such as Store hours.
- Switch on each day the screens must run.
- Give every open day an opening time and a closing time.
- Switch on Reboot the device once a day for a nightly restart.
- Pick the hour for that restart.
- Choose Each screen's own time zone or A fixed time zone.
- Select Save.
️ You cannot save while an open day still needs an opening time or a closing time. A day left off keeps the display dark all day.
️ A fixed time zone also blocks the save until you pick a zone in the list.
️ You write policies here, but you apply them from a screen's Hours section or the bulk action bar.
️ When you delete a policy, the screens that used it fall back to their own hours.
️ Without rights to edit screens, New policy does not appear. See organization, people and roles.
Lock a screen with a PIN
- Open the screen panel.
- Expand Screen Lock.
- Turn on Lock this screen.
- Choose Workspace PIN or Custom for this screen.
- Type a PIN of 4 to 8 digits.
- Select Save.
- Set Return to content after in seconds.
- Select Reveal under Recovery code.
- Store the recovery code somewhere safe.
️ Brix never shows the current PIN again. A new PIN replaces the old one.
️ Every screen set to Workspace PIN shares one code, so a change reaches them all.
️ With no PIN set, the screen opens only with its recovery code or a remote unlock.
️ The return timer runs between 10 and 600 seconds. A keypress on the PIN screen restarts the timer.
️ Select Rotate to issue a new recovery code. The old code stops working at once.
️ On a signage stick the lock is a real kiosk lock. On a consumer TV the lock guards the Brix settings only, not the TV menu.
Let a technician in on site
- Open the screen panel.
- Expand Screen Lock.
- Select Unlock now (10 min).
️ When the screen is offline, Brix runs the unlock the moment the screen reconnects.
