Share a template and lock what others can change

Send a design to other locations, roles or people, choose exactly what they may edit, and see what a recipient gets.

A design you share stays yours. Use this guide to send a design to other locations, roles or people, and to set what those people may change. Every task below starts in the design editor. To build the design first, read design a sign.

What you can do

Share a design with other people

You share a design from the design editor. The Share button sits on the top row, between the add tools and Preview.

  2. Select the Your designs tab.
  3. Select the design you want to share.
  4. Select Share at the top of the editor.
  5. Choose Only me, Everyone in this workspace, or Specific locations, roles or people.
  6. For Specific locations, roles or people, tick each location, role and person that should get the design.

️ Brix saves sharing the moment you choose. The Save button at the top of the editor is for the design, not for the audience.
️ The Share button names the current state. A shared design reads Shared · everyone, Shared · 3 locations or Shared · 1 person.
Who has it now, under the choices, lists every location, role and person who holds the design today.
️ Sharing needs the Share to other locations permission on Creatives. An administrator grants it per role — read set up your organization, people and roles.

Choose what people can change

  1. Select Share at the top of the editor.
  2. Read the summary sentence under the dialog title.
  3. Under What they can change, select Nothing or Everything.
  4. Or select Text, Formatting and Position in any combination.
  5. Read the green and gray chips under the icon row.
  6. Select Done.
  7. Select Save at the top of the editor.

The five options, in the words the dialog uses:

Brix never hands these parts of a design to a recipient. The dialog names them on the Always yours line:

️ The two halves of the dialog save at different moments. Brix saves sharing as you choose, but a lock change needs a Save on the design.
Text, Formatting and Position work together in any mix. Nothing and Everything each replace the whole choice.
Only me greys out the What they can change half, because nobody holds the design yet. Brix keeps your choices for the moment you share.

Give one layer its own rule

  1. Select Share at the top of the editor.
  2. Select Layer exceptions.
  3. Find the layer in the list.
  4. Select the icons that should apply to that layer.
  5. Select Done.
  6. Select Save at the top of the editor.
️ A layer that follows the design shows its setting dimmed. Select an icon on that row to make an exception from what you see.
️ To put a layer back to the design setting, select the round arrow at the end of its row.
️ The Layer exceptions row counts the exceptions. With no exception at all, the row says that every layer follows the setting above.

Edit a design shared with you

  1. Go to Content > Templates in the sidebar.
  2. Select the Your designs tab.
  3. Open the design the owner shared.
  4. Read the label beside the design name, which counts the layers you can edit.
  5. Select a layer on the canvas.
  6. Change the controls the right panel offers.
  7. Select Save.
The Your designs tab. A design somebody shares with you opens from here, like any other card.
The Your designs tab. A design somebody shares with you opens from here, like any other card.
️ The right panel offers only the controls the owner allows. A fully locked layer says so in plain words.
️ Under On screen, untick Show this layer to take a sold-out item off your screens. The layer stays in the design.
️ Brix keeps your edits in your own workspace. The owner's design does not change. Set a value back to the owner's value and Brix drops your edit.
️ The add tools and the Share button do not appear on a design shared with you. A recipient cannot add a layer to somebody else's design.
️ Brix never names the owner's workspace. The label and the panel both say the template owner.
