Share content between teams and locations

Reserve airtime for another team, hand one slot to a group, fill airtime shared with you, and share content down the organisation tree.

Content in Brix belongs to one team until you share it. This guide is for the person who owns a playlist and wants another team to fill part of it. The guide also covers the team on the other end, who fills reserved airtime and reads what a parent workspace sends down. To build the playlist first, read build a playlist.

What you can do

Reserve airtime for another team

The Reserve airtime panel sits under the playlist header. The team fills the share from their own workspace, so their content never appears in your item list.

  1. Go to Content > Playlists.
  2. Open the playlist you want to share.
  3. Find the Reserve airtime panel under the header.
  4. Select Reserve for a team.
  5. Select the team under Reserve a share for.
  6. Drag the slider, or type into the percent box, to set the share.
  7. Release the slider, or leave the percent box, to save the share.
  8. Read the caption under the row for how often the team's content plays.

The Reserve airtime panel, with the split bar, the House share and one row for each team.
️ A new share starts at 25 percent, or at whatever airtime is left if that is less.
House is the airtime left for your own content, so the House share shrinks as you reserve more.
️ Reserved shares cannot add up to more than 100 percent. The slider stops at the airtime that is left.
Reserve for a team disappears once the reserved total reaches 100 percent, or once every team holds a share.

Choose what plays in slots the team leaves empty

  1. Find the team's row in the Reserve airtime panel.
  2. Select the button beside If unfilled.
  3. Choose Give the airtime back to me, Play filler content or Show a holding card.
  4. For Play filler content, select Choose filler.
  5. Pick one of your own playlists.

Read the team's content before it airs

  1. Find the team's row in the Reserve airtime panel.
  2. Turn on They need my approval before it airs.

The team's content now waits for your decision. To work through the queue, read approve content before it airs.

Stop reserving airtime

  1. Find the team's row in the Reserve airtime panel.
  2. Select the trash button at the right of the row.
  3. Check that the split bar returns the share to House.
️ Brix removes the share at once. There is no confirmation step.

Hand one slot to a group

Use a group when one item belongs to another team and the rest of the playlist stays yours. A group on an item reserves no airtime.

  1. Open the playlist.
  2. Move the pointer over the item row.
  3. Select the Share pill in the right-hand rail of the row.
  4. Select the group under Share with one group.
  5. Check that the pill now shows the group's color and name.
️ The Find a group box appears once the workspace has more than four groups.
️ An item belongs to one group at a time. A second group replaces the first.
️ Groups come from the workspace organization. To create one, read set up your organization, people and roles.

Give a slot back to everyone

  1. Select the group pill on the item row.
  2. Select Everyone at the top of the menu.

Check what a group sees

  1. Select the Audience card in the settings strip under the playlist name.
  2. Select Preview as group.
  3. Select the line that reads Member of with the group name.
  4. Read the item list: another group's slots now read Reserved slot.
  5. Select Preview as group again.
  6. Select Admin (all access) to go back.
️ The preview changes nothing about what plays. Preview as group appears once the playlist has at least one group.

Fill airtime another team reserved for you

The Shared with you section sits at the top of the Playlists page. The section exists only while another team reserves airtime for your team.

  1. Go to Content > Playlists.
  2. Read the Shared with you section at the top of the page.
  3. Read the card for the size of the share and the playlist it sits in.
  4. Select Add your content.
  5. Wait for the new playlist to open.
  6. Add your media in the editor.
Add your content creates a new playlist in your own workspace and opens it at once.
️ The card reads Needs approval before airing when the owner wants to see your content first. Otherwise the card reads Airs as soon as you publish.
️ The owner sets the size of the share. You choose only what fills it.

Use a different playlist for that airtime

  1. Go to Content > Playlists.
  2. Find the card in Shared with you.
  3. Select the chevron button beside Edit your content.
  4. Select the playlist you want under Fill this airtime with.

To hand the airtime back, select Stop filling this airtime in the same menu. Brix unbinds your playlist and keeps it in your workspace.

See what another workspace plays on your screens

  1. Go to Content > Playlists.
  2. Read the Shared with us section at the top of the page.
  3. Read each card for the content name, its kind and the workspace that shared it.
  4. Contact that workspace to change the content, because only they can change or remove it.
️ The cards are read-only. You cannot open, edit or stop content another workspace shares with you.
️ The section also lists shared layouts and schedules, because the Playlists page is where all three appear.
️ When the owner deletes the content, the card reads No longer available. The content already stopped playing on your screens.

Share a playlist with other locations

  1. Open the playlist.
  2. Select Share at the top right.
  3. Set Every location to Can play, or to Can play + add local.
  4. Set a different level beside a single location to override that default.
  5. Select Save sharing.
The Share content dialog, with the Every location default above the per-location overrides.
The Share content dialog, with the Every location default above the per-location overrides.
️ Pick Can play + add local for locations that may add their own items.
️ Brix saves nothing until you select Save sharing. If you close the dialog first, Brix drops your changes.
️ The Share button appears only for people who can edit the playlist.
️ A playlist works outside its own location only through a share you set here.

Stop sharing a playlist with a location

  1. Open the playlist.
  2. Select Share.
  3. Set the location's list to Not shared.
  4. Select Save sharing.

Grant content to a child Space

A parent Space shares a playlist, layout or schedule down to a Space under it. The child Space always plays your current version, so your later edits reach the child's screens. The sharing page has no entry in the Settings navigation, so open it at /settings/sharing.

  1. Open the sharing page at /settings/sharing.
  2. Type the child Space ID into Target Space ID.
  3. Choose Playlist, Layout or Schedule under Content kind.
  4. Type the item ID into Content ID.
  5. Choose a Lock level.
  6. Select Grant share.
  7. Read the toast that confirms the child Space can use the content.
️ The page reads Not applicable until the workspace turns on Multi-tier org hierarchy. The workspace must also sit in a parent or child Space.
️ Both fields take a raw ID that you type or paste. Grant share stays disabled until both fields hold an ID.
️ The Lock level wording follows the content kind: a layout names zones, a schedule names blocks, a playlist names items.
️ The CMS has no revoke control yet. Brix support or the API must remove a share you granted.

See what your parent Space shared with you

  1. Open the sharing page at /settings/sharing.
  2. Read the Shared from parent Space list.
  3. Read each row for the content kind, the ID, the lock level and the grant time.
  4. Contact the parent Space to change or remove anything in the list.
️ The list shows only shares into this Space. A share you grant never appears there, so the toast is your only confirmation.

To share a design and lock what other teams can change, read share a template.
