The best Poppulo alternative for most digital signage buyers is a platform priced and sold per screen, not through an enterprise sales process: Poppulo publishes no price and sizes every deal around network size, support tier and hardware. Public contracts put Poppulo at roughly $250 to $630 per screen per year for software and support alone. Many buyers want a screen that reaches frontline staff who have no company email, not Poppulo's full email-and-intranet bundle. If you need a security certification and SAML single sign-on, Appspace (ISO 27001) is the closer match. If you want its employee-communications feel without the enterprise quote, ScreenCloud is the closer match.
- Lowest paid price: Brix, $6 per screen per month annual or $8 monthly.
- Closest to Poppulo's enterprise certifications: Appspace (SAML SSO, SOC 3 Type II, ISO 27001).
- Closest to Poppulo's employee-screen feel: ScreenCloud.
- Free for one screen, forever: Yodeck.
- Widest app library at a lower tier: OptiSigns.
- Per-device pricing below its top tier: TelemetryTV.
- Published price with SAML and team roles: Kitcast.
Stay with Poppulo if you run thousands of screens across a global company, need ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II on record, and want Poppulo's hardware-replacement service and dedicated onboarding team. For a single site or a chain of a few hundred screens, most alternatives below publish a price, so you can start without a sales call.
What does Poppulo cost?
Poppulo quotes every deal by sales call. Its pricing page names three packages: Core Platform, Advanced Authoring with Content Experience Builder, and Industry-Optimized Solutions. Each ends in "Talk to sales". The quote is set by network size (screens and locations), the support and services tier, and the hardware Poppulo configures for you.
Public records show what buyers pay:
- US Army, 20 screens: the Corpus Christi Army Depot paid Four Winds Interactive (now Poppulo) $12,668.40 a year for maintenance and support on 20 digital signage licences, every year from 2018 to 2022 (USAspending.gov award W912NW22P0001). That is $633 per screen per year, about $53 a month.
- University of Pittsburgh: charges its departments $250 per content player per year for its Poppulo-powered signage, hardware extra (Pitt Digital).
- University of Michigan: its all-in monthly rate for a 65-inch screen is $77.49 on the Poppulo tier (BrightSign player, Poppulo Four Winds CMS) and $38.82 on the Amazon Signage Stick tier with Google Slides. Both include hardware upkeep, support and refresh (U-M ITS).
- Whole-platform contracts: Vendr's buyer data puts the median Poppulo contract at $42,338 a year, from $28,178 to $76,881 (Vendr). That figure covers Poppulo as a whole, mostly its internal-comms products.
- Contract length: Poppulo's hospitality offer gives 6 months free on a 36-month agreement (Poppulo). Multi-year terms are normal. Financing through Ascentium Capital can bundle software, hardware and services into one plan.
The trial is 14 days with no card. It starts with a form and a call with a Poppulo team member, then a guided onboarding tour (Poppulo free trial).
Why look for a Poppulo alternative?
- No price until a sales call. You cannot compare Poppulo against another vendor without first giving a rep your screen count.
- It is built for scale you may not have. Poppulo describes networks of 10 to 10,000+ screens. A 20-screen chain is a small account on a platform sized for that range.
- It bundles two products. Poppulo's signage sits inside a wider "Employee Experience" platform with email, intranet and a mobile app. A screen in the break room or near the time clock does not need the email and intranet half. If you do want the full bundle, compare an internal-comms platform such as Staffbase or Workvivo instead of a signage-only tool.
- Services add to the quote. Implementation, pre-configured hardware, field services and managed content are sold alongside the platform.
- The software is the smaller cost on cheap hardware. At $633 per screen per year, three years of Poppulo support on one screen costs more than ten Amazon Signage Sticks at $99.99.
What Poppulo's signage platform includes
From Poppulo's own signage, hardware and security pages:
- Software: a cloud CMS (Poppulo Harmony, signed in at fwicloud.com) plus a desktop app, Advanced Authoring, for custom screen designs.
- Control: scheduling, targeting and role-based approval workflows across departments and locations.
- Monitoring: device health alerts and Remote Monitoring & Management (RMM), which fixes issues itself or opens a ticket.
- Integrations: 80+ out of the box, including Power BI, Tableau, Salesforce, Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
- Security: ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and SOC 2 Type II. SAML 2.0, Okta or OpenID Connect single sign-on, depending on product. AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2 in transit.
- Data regions: North America, EMEA and Asia-Pacific, with no replication between regions.
- Support: 24/7, with a 99.9% uptime guarantee and a one-hour response on critical issues.
- Services: "Swap-It" replacement of a failed in-warranty player on site within 72 hours, plus pre-configured players, site surveys and installation.
Players Poppulo runs on
- Windows PCs: from entry-level Intel Celeron for basic content to discrete-graphics PCs for video walls. The University of Nebraska's Poppulo standard is an Intel Core Ultra 5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage, Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC (UNL).
- BrightSign: XD5 and XT5 (Series 5 certified), and HD6 and XD6. Older supported models include the XT1144, XT1145, XD1034, XD1035, HD1025, LS445 and XC4055 (Pitt FAQ).
- Android: the Amazon Signage Stick and Amazon Firefly.
- Built-in screens: SoC displays from LG, Samsung, Philips and Sony.
- File limit: 10 GB per content file.
That is a real enterprise feature set. It is also more than a single site or a small chain needs to pay for.

The alternatives, one by one
Brix
- Price: $6 per screen per month billed annually, or $8 billed monthly. One plan. 7-day trial, no card.
- Best for: shops, restaurants and multi-site chains that want roles, approvals and proof of play without an enterprise sales process.
- Players: Amazon Signage Stick, Fire TV, Android boxes, TVs with Google TV built in, Windows.
- Strengths: custom roles, approvals, audit log, proof of play, TV on/off by schedule, remote reboot and screenshots on the Signage Stick, OIDC single sign-on and SCIM, four hosting regions (US, EU, Oceania, Asia-Pacific) on the one plan, free migration from Poppulo usually in a day, US-based support 24/7. A Signage Stick pairs in about 10 minutes.
- Watch out for: no SAML, no SOC 2 report, no uptime SLA, no synced video wall, no LG webOS, Apple TV or BrightSign player, and no email, intranet or mobile-app features. Brix does screens only.
Appspace
- Price: quote only on its own site. Its UK government price list shows Express (25 devices, single sign-on, 25 GB storage) at £850 a month, about £34 per device, with extra devices at £43.61. The 50-device cloud plan is £1,526 a month (£30.52 per device), 250 devices £4,143 (£16.57), and 1,000 devices £8,286 (£8.29) (G-Cloud 14 pricing document).
- Plans: Free (1 device, 2 users, 5 GB), Express (25 devices, card only, monthly or annual), Enterprise (50+ devices, invoice billing). Extra storage $0.10 per GB a month, bandwidth $0.15 (Appspace pricing).
- Best for: a team that wants Poppulo-style certifications and SAML SSO with an employee app.
- Players: the Amazon Signage Stick (certified, no portrait mode or interactivity), BrightSign XD and XT, Android, and its own mobile app.
- Strengths: SAML SSO from Express, a SOC 3 Type II report, ISO 27001 and ISO 27017, Teams, Slack and Webex integration, broadcasts and live channels, a 60-day trial with every Enterprise feature.
- Watch out for: the per-device price only falls under £10 at about 1,000 devices; portrait mode and interactivity are not supported on the Signage Stick.
ScreenCloud
- Price: Core $20 annual or $24 monthly; Pro $30 annual or $36 monthly; Enterprise quote-only.
- Best for: teams that liked Poppulo's employee-communications feel and want dashboards, QR metrics and single sign-on.
- Players: the Amazon Signage Stick, ScreenCloud's own OS player ($199), Android and more.
- Strengths: 80+ apps and integrations, unlimited file storage and a GraphQL API on every plan, single sign-on on Enterprise.
- Watch out for: costs more than Brix, OptiSigns or Yodeck at every tier, and single sign-on needs the quote-only Enterprise plan. More in ScreenCloud alternatives.
OptiSigns
- Price: Standard $9 annual or $10 monthly; Pro Plus $13.50 or $15. Free up to 3 screens (not on the Signage Stick).
- Best for: the widest app library (100+) at a price under Poppulo's enterprise tier.
- Players: its own OptiStick, the Signage Stick on paid plans, Android, Samsung, LG, BrightSign, Windows, ChromeOS.
- Strengths: SOC 2 Type 2 and SAML on Pro Plus, a 100+ app library, a free 3-screen plan for testing.
- Watch out for: remote reboot and TV on/off on the Signage Stick need Pro Plus. More in OptiSigns alternatives.
Yodeck
- Price: Basic $8, Premium $12, Enterprise $16, the same billed annually or monthly. One screen free, forever.
- Best for: a free single screen, with SAML SSO on Enterprise ($16) if you need it.
- Players: its own Yodeck Player, the Signage Stick, Fire TV, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, BrightSign, Windows.
- Strengths: SAML 2.0 single sign-on and ISO 27001 certification; wide player support; a free Yodeck Player bundled on annual plans.
- Watch out for: custom roles need Enterprise ($16).
TelemetryTV
- Price: Entry $8 annual or $9 monthly; Core $13 or $15; Elite $16 annual, 10-screen minimum. Network and Enterprise are quote-only.
- Best for: per-device pricing on its Entry and Core plans, with no screen minimum.
- Players: its own Box OS player, Android, Windows, Linux, macOS, ChromeOS, Raspberry Pi and Fire TV Sticks (3rd Gen, 4K Max, Lite; Fire OS 6 or later). It is not on Amazon's Signage Stick partner list.
- Strengths: real-time content changes with no sync wait, a global CDN, scheduled reboots from Core, and HDMI-CEC power control on Elite and up.
- Watch out for: its own docs call Fire TV "ideal for a handful of screens" but not for deploying at scale (TelemetryTV docs), and the Fire TV app has no live screenshots or video wall. A SOC 2 report needs the quote-only Network or Enterprise tier, and SAML needs Enterprise.
Kitcast
- Price: Starter $7 annual or $9 monthly; Pro $10 annual or $14 monthly. 14-day trial.
- Best for: SAML SSO and team roles at a published price, with no Poppulo-style quote.

- Strengths: SAML SSO, advanced roles, audit logs, API and CAP emergency alerts on Pro.
- Watch out for: Starter has no SSO or team roles; those start on Pro.

For 20 screens, the Army's Poppulo support line ($12,668.40 a year) compares with $1,440 a year on Brix's annual plan. The Signage Sticks ($99.99 each) are extra on Brix; Poppulo hardware is extra too. For a global account with thousands of screens that needs ISO 27001 on file for its own customers, Poppulo's certifications and services are the reason to pay for them.
Switching from Poppulo
- Start a free trial on your chosen alternative and rebuild your playlists and schedules while Poppulo still plays.
- Move each Amazon Signage Stick. Remove it from the Poppulo account, factory reset it, and pick the new platform in its on-screen setup.
- Reuse or replace other players. Windows PCs bought through Poppulo keep working on most alternatives, Brix included. BrightSign players need a platform that supports BrightSign (Appspace, OptiSigns, Yodeck or Kitcast); Brix does not, so on Brix a BrightSign screen needs a Signage Stick.
- Cancel the Poppulo contract once every screen is confirmed on the new platform. Check your term and notice period first: multi-year agreements are common.
Brix moves your content, playlists and screens over for you, free, usually in a day. See switching digital signage provider for timing across any vendor, and how much digital signage costs for hardware and installation.
FAQ
Does Poppulo have a free plan?
No. It has a 14-day free trial with no card, which starts with a call with a Poppulo team member. There is no ongoing free tier.
How much does Poppulo cost per screen?
Poppulo does not publish it. Public contracts show $250 per content player per year at the University of Pittsburgh and $633 per licence per year for a 20-screen US Army site, before hardware.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Poppulo with the same security certifications?
Appspace comes closest: SAML SSO on Express, a SOC 3 Type II report, ISO 27001 and ISO 27017. Its UK public price starts at about £34 per device a month for 25 devices. At a published US price, OptiSigns has SOC 2 Type II with SAML SSO on Pro Plus, and Yodeck has ISO 27001 with SAML SSO on Enterprise, but neither holds both of Poppulo's main certifications together.
Is Poppulo the same company as Four Winds Interactive?
Yes. Poppulo combined with Four Winds Interactive (FWi). Contracts and university sites still name it Four Winds, and its CMS still signs in at fwicloud.com.
Can I buy Poppulo for just digital signage?
Yes. Poppulo prices digital signage on its own signage pricing page, separate from its Employee Experience (email, intranet, mobile app) pricing.
What hardware works with a Poppulo alternative?
Most of the vendors above run on the Amazon Signage Stick ($99.99): Brix, Poppulo, Appspace, ScreenCloud, Yodeck, OptiSigns (paid plans) and Kitcast all support it. TelemetryTV runs on Fire TV Sticks instead.
