X2O Media, the Montreal digital signage and hybrid-learning company, stopped trading at the end of March 2026. Trade site DailyDOOH reported on 31 March 2026 that X2O had been put into administration the week before, with the loss of up to 50 jobs (DailyDOOH). invidis and AV Magazine confirmed the closure on 2 April 2026 (invidis, AV Magazine). x2omedia.com did not load when we checked in September 2026. If your screens run the X2O Platform or OneVu, plan a move to another signage platform.

What was X2O Media?

X2O Media started in 2006 as a spin-off from VertigoXmedia, a Montreal broadcast graphics company. Barco bought it in 2014, and STRATACACHE bought it from Barco in 2018 (AV Magazine, DailyDOOH). It sold to large companies, universities and control rooms.

From X2O's own site (archived copies, January to April 2026):

  • X2O Platform: channels built from templates and live data (KPIs, news, weather, corporate databases), for screens, desktops and phones. It ran in the cloud or on the customer's own servers, with LDAP and Active Directory sign-in and an API.
  • OneVu: workplace and operational screens: KPIs and leaderboards, meeting room availability, air quality, corporate news and visitor welcome screens.
  • OneRoom: hybrid classrooms and training rooms for in-room and remote learners.
  • X2O Media Players: its own players (Player-S, R, DX and Q).

Why did X2O Media close?

DailyDOOH and AV Magazine link the closure to money problems across the STRATACACHE group. In the same weeks, invidis reported that Real Digital Media (RDM), another STRATACACHE company for workplace screens, was being wound down, and that Scala cut about half its US jobs. Scala itself did not close: STRATACACHE sold it to Vertiseit, a Swedish company, in a deal completed on 1 June 2026 (Vertiseit).

What does it mean for X2O customers?

None of the reports says how long X2O's cloud service, licences or support continue, or who handles customer contracts. Plan as if nothing will be fixed or updated:

  • Screens. Plan as if the cloud service can stop at any time. Live data on your channels, and any change to what the screens show, depend on it.
  • On-premise servers. An X2O server on your own network may keep running, but it gets no security updates. Ask your IT team whether it can stay on the network.
  • Contracts and prepaid licences. Ask the reseller or integrator that sold you X2O what happens to fees you paid in advance.
  • Players. X2O's players ran its own player software. Ask your integrator whether they can be wiped and reused; if not, budget a new player per screen.

Appspace runs a migration offer for X2O customers, with a free migration assessment and preferential pricing for qualifying customers (Appspace for X2O customers, read September 2026).

How to move off X2O

  1. Save your content first, while the X2O system still loads: images, videos, logos, templates and the addresses of every data source and dashboard your channels use.
  2. List your screens. For each one: where it is, what it shows, the player behind it, and whether it is part of a video wall.
  3. Pick the new platform from the table below, by what the screens do.
  4. Pick the players. Use what the new platform supports: a TV with Google TV built in, an Android box, a Windows PC, or an Amazon Signage Stick ($99.99) for Brix.
  5. Rebuild and pair. Recreate playlists and schedules, point dashboards at their data again, and pair each player. Run one screen side by side before you switch a floor or a site.
