Schedule a Menu Board Change From ChatGPT

Ask ChatGPT or Claude to switch your menu board to a new menu at a set date and time, or by daypart. The prompt, the Brix tools and the permissions.

To schedule a menu board change from ChatGPT, connect Brix to ChatGPT once, then ask: "From Monday at 5:00 am, show the fall menu on the drive-thru boards at the Main Street store instead of the summer menu." ChatGPT finds the new menu with the Brix tool search_media, then adds it to the store's schedule with a start date through the Brix API, and ends the old menu at the same moment. The boards switch on their own at 5:00 am in the store's time zone. It works the same in Claude.

For a menu refresh across hundreds of stores and price tiers, see update menu boards at every store with one prompt.

Steps

  1. Connect Brix to ChatGPT (Developer mode) or Claude and sign in. The steps are in Control your digital signage from Claude or ChatGPT.
  2. On the Brix permission page, set Schedules and Screens to View and change. Add Files on View and change if the assistant will upload the new menu for you.
  3. Make sure the new menu is in Brix: upload it in the console, or give the assistant a public link and it imports it.
  4. Ask. Say which boards, what changes and when:
From Monday at 5:00 am, replace the summer menu with "Fall menu" on every screen tagged drive-thru at the Main Street store. Keep the breakfast menu from 5:00 am to 10:30 am as it is. Tell me what you changed and what the boards will show at 9:00 am, noon and 8:00 pm on Monday.
  1. Check the answer. The last line of the prompt makes the assistant read back the result, so you can catch a wrong time before Monday.

Set up dayparts in one prompt

If the boards do not have a schedule yet, ask for one:

Make a schedule called "Main Street menus": breakfast menu 5:00 am to 10:30 am, lunch menu 10:30 am to 4:00 pm, dinner menu 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, every day. Assign it to every screen at the Main Street store.

The assistant runs bulk_create to make the schedule, with times in each screen's own time zone, then assign_content to put it on the screens.

Each part of a schedule (a block) can have a start date and an end date, and a priority for when two overlap. A dated change is a new block that starts on the date, with the old block ending the day before. Nothing changes on screen until the start time. See schedules for how blocks work in the console.

Permissions and limits

  • Times are local to each screen. 5:00 am means 5:00 am wherever that board is.
  • Offline boards. A board that is offline when you make the change keeps its current schedule until it reconnects and picks up the new one.
  • Location limit. A connection limited to one store can change only that store's schedules and screens.
  • Audit log. Each change is recorded under Settings > Audit log with the connection that made it.

Where Brix fits

Brix runs menu boards on the Amazon Signage Stick, Android boxes and Windows players, with dayparts, dated changes and the assistant tools included on every plan: $6 per screen per month billed annually, or $8 billed monthly. Live prices from a POS are also possible: Brix connects to Toast, Square and Clover. Our team sets up the connection with you. Talk to us.

For one board that changes twice a year, editing the schedule in the console is as quick as a prompt. The assistant saves time when the change covers many boards, or has several dates and exceptions to get right. See the MCP setup page for every tool.
