Update Menu Boards at Every Store With One Prompt

How to run a menu refresh across hundreds of digital menu boards with one AI prompt instead of a day of clicking, using Brix and an MCP assistant.

How-To
On this page
  1. Set it up once: locations, tags and schedules
  2. The refresh, in one prompt
  3. When a store moves to another tier
  4. Keep 24-hour stores on
  5. One photo, several versions of a board
  6. Check the result

To refresh hundreds of digital menu boards with one prompt, connect an AI assistant such as Claude to your Brix workspace and describe the change: "Put the fall menu on every tier 3 board from Monday, except the 24-hour stores." The assistant finds the screens by tag, builds the schedules and assigns them. The screens pick up the change on their own, with no pausing or restarting. For a single store starting from scratch, see how to display a menu on a TV.

Set it up once: locations, tags and schedules

An assistant can only target "every tier 3 board" if the workspace knows which boards those are. You can ask the assistant to set this up too.

  • Locations. Build regions and stores as locations, with the store number as the Location ID. The assistant creates hundreds in one call from your store list, and a re-run skips stores that already exist.
  • Tags. Tag each screen with what you target: its price tier, format and store hours, for example tier-3, portrait, drive-thru, 24h.
  • Schedules. Make one schedule per tier, holding your dayparts: which menu plays at which times, on which days. A schedule can have a start date and an expiry date, so a limited-time offer takes itself down.

A setup prompt:

Here is our store list as a CSV: store number, name, province, price tier, and whether the store is open 24 hours. Create a location for each store under its province, with the store number as the Location ID. Then tag every screen at each store with its tier, and add the tag 24h where the store is open 24 hours. Show me the count per tier when you finish.

Check the counts against your own list.

To connect the assistant, search for Brix in Claude's connectors (Customize > Connectors) or add it by URL, in ChatGPT turn on Developer mode and add it under chatgpt.com/plugins, then sign in, or give Claude Code or Cursor an API key from Settings > AI, API & MCP. Give only the permissions the job needs, and start with one test store. See Control your screens from Claude or ChatGPT and the MCP setup page.

The refresh, in one prompt

The fall menu images for each tier are in this folder, one file per board position. Upload them. For each tier, make a copy of the current schedule called "Fall menu, tier N", swap in the new images for the same dayparts, and set it to start on Monday at 5:00 am. Assign each new schedule to every screen with that tier tag. Do not change screens tagged 24h. List any screen you could not update.

The assistant uploads the images to Files, creates the new schedules, assigns each to its tier in batches of up to 200 screens, and reports what it skipped and why. A screen that is offline keeps playing what it has and picks up the change when it reconnects.

When a store moves to another tier

Store 4127 moves from tier 3 to tier 2. Change the tier tag on its screens and put them on the tier 2 schedule.

Keep 24-hour stores on

A new screen follows Standard hours: 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. Outside those hours, a Signage Stick turns the TV off over HDMI-CEC. A store that never closes needs Always on.

Set every screen tagged 24h to Always on. Give the other tier 3 screens custom hours that end at 1:00 am.

See Screen settings, opening hours and display power.

One photo, several versions of a board

Use this photo as the background. Make three designs from it: one says "Original", one says "Hot and spicy", one says "Extra crispy". Put the name in the top left in white, large enough to read from the counter.

Brix checks each design as it is made. It refuses text that is too small to read at a distance or with too little contrast, so the assistant corrects it before you see it. You can open any design in the editor and change it by hand. See Design a sign.

Check the result

Which tier 3 boards are not on the fall schedule yet? For each one, tell me why.

The assistant explains what each screen is playing and why: a schedule, a cast, an emergency message, or the default content. If a location needs approval for new content, what the assistant creates there waits as a draft until a person approves it. See Approve content before it airs.

The API and the MCP server are included on every plan: $6 per screen per month billed annually, or $8 billed monthly. See pricing. To see this on your own menus, book a demo.
