No. Amazon rates the Amazon Signage Display for 18 hours a day, 7 days a week (18/7), and its technical sheet says it is not rated for continuous 24/7 operation. For most businesses that is enough: a shop, restaurant, office or gym that closes at night can switch the screen off for six hours with a schedule in its signage software. For a screen that must stay on all the time, buy a display rated for 24/7 and plug in an Amazon Signage Stick.
What does 18/7 mean?
18/7 is a duty-cycle rating: the screen is designed to run up to 18 hours in each 24, every day of the week. The other six hours it should be off. Display makers rate screens this way because a panel left on for longer than it was built for wears faster.
The common ratings:
| Rating | Hours on per day | Typical screens |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer TV | About 8 (home use) | Most living-room TVs |
| 18/7 | 18 | Amazon Signage Display |
| 24/7 | 24 | Commercial displays for lobbies, transit, 24-hour stores |
The consumer TV figure is Samsung's (Samsung Insights). So an 18/7 display sits between a home TV and a 24/7 commercial screen.
Which businesses fit 18/7?
Any place that closes for six hours or more:
- A café open 6:00 am to 9:00 pm: 15 hours on.
- A shop open 9:00 am to 9:00 pm: 12 hours on, plus an hour before opening for staff.
- An office reception screen, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on weekdays: 12 hours.
- A gym open 5:00 am to 11:00 pm: 18 hours, the limit.
A 24-hour diner, a hospital waiting room, a gas station store or a hotel lobby that never closes does not fit. Those need a 24/7 display.
How do you keep it within 18 hours?
Set screen hours in your signage software (CMS). Most CMSs that support the Amazon Signage devices can turn the screen off on a schedule, and the Amazon Signage app can turn displays on and off too. Set the off period for your closing hours, at least six hours a day, and make sure no one has set the screen to "always on".
Two habits help:
- Match the schedule to each location. A store that opens late on Sundays needs its own hours.
- Check after a holiday change. A screen left on through a long weekend runs past its rating for days.
What if you need 24/7?
Buy a commercial display rated for 24/7 and plug in an Amazon Signage Stick. For example, Samsung rates its 55-inch QM55C for 24/7 use at 500 nits; it listed at $1,260 on Amazon.com on October 1, 2026. You keep the same Amazon Signage app and the same CMS, so a 24/7 screen in the lobby and Displays in the rest of the building are managed in one place. See Signage Display vs Signage Stick.
Where Brix fits
A new Brix screen runs "Standard hours" by default: 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, which is 17 hours a day and inside the Display's 18/7 rating. You do not need to change anything for a typical business. To fit your opening hours, set the screen's hours in Brix; outside them, Brix turns the screen off and back on in the morning. Brix also has "Always on" for a 24/7 screen. Do not use it on a Signage Display: use it on a 24/7-rated display with a Signage Stick. See screen settings and display power.
